Calprotectin

Calprotectin is a calcium-containing protein that exists in neutral granular spheres and macrophages. It is stable in stool for 3-4 days at room temperature. It has antimicrobial activity and can be used as a marker of acute inflammatory cell activation. It appears in large quantities in the stool of patients with tract diseases.

The quantitative detection of fecal Calprotectin can distribute inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); it can also be used in the diagnosis of spontaneous peritonitis in patients with liver cirrhosis; it can also be an another choice of early diagnosis marker for IBD patients.
