Interleukin-6 (IL-6)

Interleukin-6 referred to as IL-6, is a pleiotropic cytokine with a wide range of functions. IL-6 can regulate the growth and differentiation of a variety of cells, has the function of regulating immune response, acute phase response and hematopoietic function, and plays an important role in the body's anti-infection immune response.

IL-6 has obvious changes in a variety of diseases, its expression imbalance can cause many diseases, and its clinical manifestations are mainly increased IL-6 levels at the onset. IL-6 is produced rapidly in the process of acute inflammation during internal and external injuries, surgery, stress response, infection, brain death, tumor production and other situations. The IL-6 concentration of surgical patients can predict whether there will be surgical complications.

Continuous detection of IL-6 levels in serum or plasma of intensive care patients can effectively assess the severity of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), the prognosis of sepsis and septic shock. The serum level of IL-6 increased earlier than PCT and CRP, which can be used as an early warning indicator of sepsis. IL-6 also plays an important role in chronic inflammation (such as rheumatoid arthritis).
